There are a lot of activities that parents can do with their children from UNO. Scrabble, Monopoly, fun science experiments, and traditional indoor games. If you are a parent and have done all this and looking for a new and exciting activity, the perfect one for you is a scavenger hunt! There are so many fun and different scavenger hunt ideas out there, but this list is some of our favorite scavenger hunt ideas.
Stay-at-Home Scavenger Hunt
Let us do an indoor scavenger hunt. When it is raining outside, this is a fun activity that can occupy your children for hours! Prepare a list of clues of objects that your children need to look for.
You don’t have to hide any of the objects, which requires you to only prepare the clues on a piece of paper. Make sure you write the clues in a simple way that children can understand but not so simple that the answers are obvious. You can categorize the clues to senses and colors.
If you want, you can just write any characteristics of an object and let the children find any objects that fit accordingly. You can ask the children to show you the objects that they have found, or they can just scream for a distance. We bet the children will prefer the latter.
Secret Code, Revealed! Scavenger Hunt
Instead of asking the children to look for objects, twist the traditional scavenger hunt with this new method. Ask the children to find clues to reveal a secret code.
You can ask the children to work this together with their siblings so that all of them can enjoy the scavenger hunt. You can print out numbers or symbols as the codes for the alphabet and they will learn and figure out how to arrange the words and also try to figure out your clues on where to find the symbols.
You must make sure that the symbols and clues will not lead the children to dangerous places such as high places that need them to climb or to the kitchen.
Colour Scavenger Hunt
Do you want to practice colors with your little ones? The scavenger hunt is the best activity to do that! Prepare a few papers with different shades of colors drawn.
Let the children find different objects that have the same shades with the colors on the paper printed. This will help the children, especially the toddlers to identify different hues that can be found around them. Let the children name the colors when they are putting the objects on the paper. If you want to make the children have a longer scavenger hunt, ask them to look for two or three objects for one color.
If you want to make it easier, put different items in a bag and ask the children to take turns taking out different items in the bag and putting it on the paper. You can do the activity in any way that you want as long as you achieve the goals of teaching the children about colors. Children will be very excited because they do not even know that they are learning.
Word Hunt
Have you noticed your children starting to be interested in learning new words and they are learning fast? It’s time for you to do a word scavenger hunt with them!
When they are at school, you need to prepare words for your children on paper. Leave some space so that they can stick a sticky note on the space. Now, when you are done with the list, write those words on sticky notes and paste them around the house.
Show the children the words on the paper and ask them to look for those words around the house. Make sure you paste the words at places where the children can easily reach without climbing.
Zoo Scavenger Hunt
Animals excite children more than other topics. If you are visiting the zoo anytime soon, you can enhance your children’s knowledge about animals by playing this zoo-themed scavenger hunt.
All you need to do is to prepare a list of animals in the zoo and your children can choose which animal they want to visit and learn about first. However, if you are not visiting the zoo, you could always use a VR box to explore and learn about the animals. With this, you can learn about animals anytime your children want to! By having the checklist, your children could easily decide which animals they want to know more about.
DIY Pirate Map
Ahoy, mate! Are you ready for a pirate-y adventure? You can hide clues around your house including your backyard or garden and draw a map for the children to find out where you hide all the clues.
To do this, you must prepare a very interesting gift such as a SPARK Kit that will excite the children so next time when you do this scavenger hunt, they will be very happy to solve it!
